Texas Radio Live, Austin’s longest-running live music radio program, is moving to a new home for its 14th season. After thirteen years at Guero’s Taco Bar on South Congress, the weekly event will move to Half Step on Rainey Street, starting Wednesday, January 29th.
Texas Radio Live began when beloved radio personality Larry Monroe first joined Sun Radio in 2011. The show has since become a musical institution, featuring more than 900 bands, showcasing local talent from Grammy-winning artists like Gary Clark Jr. and Robert Earl Keen to emerging musicians. Texas Radio Live has reached over 2 million listeners worldwide since its inception.
Half Step, known as ‘Austin’s Original Home for Music & Cocktails on Rainey St.,’ features both an indoor and outdoor stage. Critically acclaimed, Half Step has been featured in Esquire Magazine and has been a cornerstone of the Rainey Street district for the past decade.
“We know that change in Austin is a constant and we strive to be a positive part of that change,” says founder Chris Bostick, a sixth-generation Central Texan and musician in his own right, “We are beyond thrilled to partner with Sun Radio for Texas Radio Live, and to write a new chapter in the evolution of our creative community.”
Beyond showcasing local talent, Texas Radio Live serves as a crucial fundraiser for the Sun Radio Foundation (501C3). Through its Recharge Program, the foundation has provided $300,000 in financial support to local musicians since 2020, with an additional $30,000 distributed just last November.
As Texas Radio Live begins its 14th year at Half Step, Austin music lovers can look forward to continuing the tradition of celebrating the Sound of Our Town.
