Songs That Remind You Most of Being In School
This week’s Friday Countdown theme is a collection of Songs That Remind You Most of Back In School. Every Friday at 5 p.m., we have a session of Friday Countdown songs to close out the work week with a new weekly theme. Recommendations for the playlist come every week from our social media following once the theme is announced! Don’t miss it this week! Here are some songs that we love in the school-reminiscent genre!
“I Want You to Want Me,” Cheap Trick
Cheap Trick’s most iconic song with a popular Letters To Cleo cover, “I Want You To Want Me,” has been used in many coming-of-age movie and t.v. show favs like “Dawson’s Creek,” “Everybody Wants Some!!, and “10 Things I Hate About You.”
“Kids in America,” Kim Wilde
“Kids in America” is another catchy song about the ups and downs of being a teenager in America. It’s most popular film feature is probably its cover from The Muffs in the opening scene of “Clueless.”
“School Days,” Chuck Berry
Chuck Berry’s “School Days” tells the story of a mundane school day and the enjoyment of young romance and music afterwards. It was used rather perfectly in the 1979 high school movie “Rock ‘n’ Rock High School.”
“School’s Out,” Alice Cooper
Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out” is a song eternally associated with school-time angst and summer vacation. It’s been featured famously in “Dazed and Confused” and “Rock ‘n’ Rock High School.”
“Dirty Little Secret,” All American Rejects
Though almost any All American Rejects song could take you right back to high school, “Dirty Little Secret” is definitely one of the most memorable. The 2000s movies “John Tucker Must Die” and “She’s The Man” include it in their soundtracks.
“We’re Going To Be Friends,” The White Stripes
“We’re Going To Be Friends” by The White Stripes is a sweet song about innocently making school friends. The song was used in “Napoleon Dynamite” and more recently “Wonder.”
