From indie folk-pop to country rock, Austin’s music scene continues to shine. This week’s Loris’ DEBUT at NOON showcases Deer Fellow, The Band of Heathens, the country duo Melissa Carper & Theo Lawrence, and Elijah Delgado. Here are their brand-new tracks.

Deer Fellow – Fool For You

Deer Fellow is an Austin-based duo composed of Matt Salois, singer and guitarist, and Alyssa Kelly, vocalist and violinist. Deer Fellow’s music falls into the indie folk-pop category, and their musicality has been described as “cozy” yet also “bold,” emphasizing the remarkable blend of both artists’ vocals and instrumental skills. In Fool for You, the duo expresses love through a smooth and powerful melody, along with romantic lyrics that narrate the emotions of a lover who is deeply devoted and vulnerable.

The Band of Heathens – Take the Cake

Founded in 2005 by songwriters Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist in Austin, The Band of Heathens is a country rock and soul band famous for their DIY ethos, which gives their music a truly authentic feel. As part of their upcoming album “ Country Sides”, set to be released on February 20th, Take the Cake offers a first taste of what is coming up. The upbeat track draws the listener into a positive atmosphere carried by the catchy melody. Its playful lyrics warn about the dangers of “giving more than taking” in a relationship, punctuated by instrumental breaks that add color to the track.

Melissa Carper & Theo Lawerence – Good Luck To Ya

After following individual careers, Melissa Carper and Theo Lawrence’s paths crossed in 2024. On one side, a country woman who grew up in Arkansas; on the other, a city man straight from Paris. While they both liked each other’s music, they met in person after Theo had moved to Austin. United by their shared love of American music, the connection was immediate. As the Austin-based country pair has just released their new album Having a Talk, the single Good Luck to Ya captures a humorous conversation between two friends competing for the same girl, who may very well be playing them both. The rivalry remains lighthearted, with both wishing each other “good luck,” while the melody transports listeners to another generation.

Elijah Delgado – Silhouette

Since the release of his album When I Was On Cloud 9 in 2021, Elijah Delgado has been steadily rising. The South Austin artist is known for his deep and emotional lyrics, paired with beautifully crafted melodies. Defining his music as “indie rock lullabies,” he blends modern indie folk, pop, and rock in his songs. His new single Silhouette showcases his musical identity: the lyrics paint vivid scenes, while the soothing melody builds in intensity throughout the track. Although Delgado has shared that this song is deeply personal to him, he invites listeners to discover their own interpretation.
