Jade Bird’s “Who Wants to Talk About Love?”: Out Now!
Our June Artist in Residence, Jade Bird, released her first album since 2019 on Friday! The album “Who Wants to Talk About Love?” has 11 tracks from the UK born and LA based singer-songwriter. Bird showcases her vast musical background incredibly throughout the album. With a similar sound to Alanis Morissette and Maggie Rogers, Bird blends indie pop, folk, rock, and Americana. Here are some highlights from the album:
“Nobody”
The album’s second track, “Nobody,” has an upbeat guitar backbone and endearing lyrics that make it a great summer song. The song tells the story of being in a catch-22 relationship with someone; the narrator can’t be with the person they’re talking about, but they also don’t want to be with anyone else. The song is the third most-streamed track from her album on Spotify.
“How To Be Happy”
“How To Be Happy” is a solemn but beautiful reflection on how the narrator’s romantic relationship has gotten less happy over time. It’s almost like a sudden revelation to the narrator that they are no longer happy with their partner, and they try to piece together when exactly that shift happened and who it started with. The track really sweetly leads into the next song on the album, “Einstein,” where the narrator is feeling more sorry for themselves and saying they know their partner- who they still feel very strongly for- will be leaving them.
“Somebody New”
“Somebody New” is more of an angry song compared to the rest of the album. The narrator reflects on the fact that their relationship was never perfect and that they should just let it die out. The songs high energy almost invites listeners to scream along with Jade towards the album’s end.
