The staff at Sun Radio is saddened to hear about the passing of Rob Lippincott, the founder of Guero’s Taco Bar.

Rob was a transformative figure in the Austin community as well as a champion and supporter of the underdog to so many throughout the years. Without Rob’s vision and support, kindness and mentorship, Sun Radio would be a very different radio station today.  He along with David Arnsberger and the late-great Larry Monroe served as the catalyst for Texas Radio Live at Guero’s Taco Bar. Texas Radio Live in the 11th year, is now a tradition where over 600 local artist have performed live in the Guero’s Oak Garden and is the longest running live music radio program in Austin.

Rob was an incredible business man who changed Congress Avenue in Austin, taking an old feed store and turning it into a gathering place where Presidents and movie stars hung out way before Congress was trending. For us, Rob was a friend with the best smile.  He always had a kind word and whether it was hanging out at a concert or for a few days at a fishing tournament, Rob was someone who just enjoyed life to the fullest.

A friend to many and an incredible business man, Rob would say the greatest passion in this life was his love of his staff and his family.

“Never a conversation went by where he didn’t talk about his brilliant girls Bette, Lyle and wife and Rockstar Cathy Lippincott,” said Sun Radio’s Executive Director Daryl O’Neal. “He told me one time “I am surrounded by brilliant women Daryl, it makes my life so much better my friend, so go ask Cathy””.

“My friend.”

If you were one of the hundreds (perhaps thousands) who had the good fortune to hear Rob Lippincott say those two words, “my friend” believe this, he meant it.

A special Texas Radio Live to honor Rob Lippincott is being planned. For today, nothing but positive thoughts and prayers for the family, his incredible staff and so many friends.

Let’s all go buy a taco or 20, and a margarita at Gueros, and hoist one high for Rob Lippincott and say…

“Cheers Rob”

“Cheers buddy”
