The Sun Radio Foundation is pledging $13,000 towards the Sun Radio Fall Recharge to help touring musicians with gas money relief! Beginning Tuesday, September 6th at midnight, Central Texas musicians and crew members can apply online at SunRadio.com for a one-time $100 gas gard. Distribution of the gas cards will begin the week of September 19th.
The Sun Radio Recharge program and new donations to the Sun Radio Foundation now through September will be used to help provide the grants.
According to Sun Radio Program Director Gabe Reynolds: “Touring is a vital part of a musician being able to make a living and just as bands are able to get back out on the road, gas prices rise to the point of preventing some artists from traveling. Part of our mission is ‘to preserve the heritage of Texas music’ so that’s why it’s important for the Sun Radio Foundation to take this step and once again help out area artists.”
ABOUT THE SUN RADIO RECHARGE
The Sun Radio Recharge program started during the pandemic in 2020 helping to pay the electric bills of over 500 local musicians. It continued in 2021, again covering the electric bills during both the winter storm and the heat of the summer. In 2022, the Sun Radio Recharge Program helped Operation Blue Santa during Christmas in July, raising over $3600 to the Sun Radio Foundation with half going to Operation Blue Santa.
